Funny (not really tho) that I would read this verse on Parent/Teacher Conference Day.
"Be wise, my child, and make my heart glad. Then I will be able to answer my critics." Proverbs 27:11.
You see, as the notes in the NLT say, "Fairly or not, parents are judged by their child's public behavior."
And that's hard. The unfair judging part...
Because while I'm totally thrilled if your kids always behave correctly, mine do not. I wish I could assure you that we are perfect parents. We are not. Rather, we are sinful parents, raising sinful children, and were it not for the grace of God, we probably hold the potential to be more sinful than all of you.
I am reassured that both Adam and Eve had the "Perfect Parent" and yet they still sinned. Was that then a reflection on God?
Rather, it was a reflection of their own free will.
Kids make mistakes. I will always pray my children will become wise. That really would make my heart glad! But until then, let's give ourselves and other parents grace. Our children's unwise choices aren't always tied to poor parenting. And judging others? Yeah - no. Let's leave that to God as well.
Praying on. For your kids AND mine. 💕
